Installation Notes for the O-Scope II 03/07/07 The O-Scope II has two versions of 32 bit software available. Both work well on their respective operating systems but there have been several new Windows releases since the O-Scope II became obsolete. The current version is XP with Vista starting to come out in several varieties. The O-Scope II works up to the XP version and has not been tried on Vista. Not all is known on XP except that some have successfully been using it while others have had problems that perhaps will never be discovered. There are a number of things which should be done to make sure the unit will operate. Fortunately, the problems that may be encountered keep the device from working rather than injecting subtle errors in the operation. Installation is assisted by an install program but it doesn't always perform all the tasks properly. Below is a checklist to go through to insure that things are setup properly to permit the O-Scope II to function. 1. Turn off power save features for the printer port. 2. Set the printer port to SPP (or standard, AT compatible, XT compatible or bi-directional) and not to ECP. 3. For installation, make sure you are in administrator priveledge mode. 4. After installing, restart the computer. 5. Check the O-Scope II icon by right clicking and selecting properties Make sure the command line includes a forward slash followed by a number - 1, 2 or 3 indicating the printer port address. 1 - 0x378 2 - 0x278 3 - 0x3bc NOTE - this is often left out by the installation program Example: When using LPT1 at 0x378 the command line should be WSCOPE32.EXE /1 make sure there is at least 1 space between the name and the '/'. 6. While in the O-Scope II icon properties, check for the compatibility TAB (in XP etc.). It probably should be set to NT 4.0 and the NT version of the O-Scope II program should be used. This is not to say that all of these must be set as described for the program to work, however, any of these can cause enough problems to keep the O-Scope II from working. Also, details concerning how to set the BIOS directly or through utilities running under Windows tend to vary from brand to brand and model to model. The O-Scope II has not been made for 4 years now due to parts availability so there is limited support and repair available. Most parts and some replacement units are available. Please check out our web site for possible suitable replacements such as the Pico Technology PS 2202 dual channel unit and the PS 2104 single channel unit. These are not exact replacements and they do not run with the O-Scope software packages but they are excellent units with superior specifications in many areas and excellent software that performs most functions that were available to the O-Scopes and some additional ones as well. They are also close in price to that of the O-Scopes and run the latest windows versions.
